Tomb Raider

1. In the early stages of design, the hero of Tomb Raider was a resilient South American woman named Laura Cruz. She later became the very English hero, Lara Croft.

2. The core team that worked on the first Tomb Raider game for the Sega Saturn consisted of only six people: three programmers and three artists.

3. Core Design wanted to market Tomb Raider using sex appeal, and even asked the game’s creator, Toby Gard, to incorporate a ‘nude code’. He refused.

6. In a newspaper interview, English goalkeeper, David James, revealed that he had conceded four careless goals because he’d been staying up too late playing Tomb Raider.

7. The debut issue of Tomb Raider comic was the best-selling comic book of 1999.

8. Liv Tyler, Uma Thurman and Denise Richards all turned down the role of Lara Croft in the 2001 Tomb Raider movie.

9. The 2003 film, ‘Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life’, featured only one American-born actor/actress: Angelina Jolie.

10. British city, Derby – previous home to Core Design – now has a road called Lara Croft Way. It was opened in 2010 following a public vote.
